3rd Annual RHS Festival

Riverdale High School is hosting the 3RD ANNUAL week-long celebration of reading and literacy March 14th-18th, 2016.  During Literacy Week students are enjoying dress-up days, author book talks, and creative, multimodal projects in various classes.  The Riverdale Literacy Festival takes place THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 18th when students participate in a book signing event with eight young-adult authors.  Other festivities include games, music, and food.  These events help reinvigorate our students’ enthusiasm for reading by providing them with high-interest books.  Contact us to learn more about how you can participate in this year's Riverdale Literacy Festival -- and help us put books in the hands of our students!
Riverdale High School students also participated in Florida's annual Literacy Week Million Minute Marathon in January. The goal is for Florida students to collectively read over one million minutes during two days in that week. RHS students proudly read 65,957 minutes for five-day week during the 2015 Literacy Week. That was an average of 13,191 minutes per day. We did EVEN BETTER this year (click the total link below)! Let's continue to support our students' literacy efforts as our community can still donate books at the school. Thank YOU for supporting literacy!

Olga Gay Worontzoff left the Underworld for her final year of high school anxious for things to return to normal, but fate has other plans.  The new hottie at school reads her thoughts but nobody else's. Her best friend wakes up from his coma acting like a completely different person. Caught in a world that's a mix of familiar and supernatural, she must confront what she will-or won't-do to bring him back and stare down her own  perceived inadequacies to face a couple of tenacious demons, figurative and literal.  Everything she thought she knew about reality will change as she walks the line between past and present, fear and faith, love and loyalty.  And by the end of a heartbreaking year, she might be forced to realize "normal" in the conventional sense of the word is the one thing she may never achieve.

Solara Brooks needs a fresh start, someplace where nobody cares about the engine grease beneath her fingernails or the felony tattoos across her knuckles. The outer realm may be lawless, but it's not like the law has ever been on her side. Still, off-world travel doesn't come cheap; Solara is left with no choice but to indenture herself in exchange for passage to the outer realm. She just wishes it could have been to anyone besides Doran Spaulding, the rich, pretty-boy quarterback who made her life miserable in school.  The tables suddenly turn when Doran is framed for conspiracy on Earth, and Solara cons him into playing the role of her servant on board the Banshee, a ship manned by an eccentric crew with their own secrets. Given the price on both Doran and Solara's heads, it may just be the safest place in the universe.  It's been a long time since Solara has believed in anyone, and Doran is the last person she expected to trust. But when the Banshee's dangerous enemies catch up with them, Solara and Doran must come together to protect the ship that has become their home-and the eccentric crew that feels like family.

When sixteen-year old Torrance Olivia Maddox, self-confessed news junkie, figures out that the mysterious and deadly New Flu is being spread by dogs, she has one question—if the danger is that obvious to her, why hasn’t the government revealed the truth and taken action? Her search for the answer will take her farther than she ever imagined. But then again, she never imagined that man’s best friend could become public enemy number one, that men in black might show up in her cozy suburban neighborhood, that she’d spend her sixteenth birthday as a teenaged runaway, and that her effort to save one dog would become a mission to save them all.
