Homecoming Dress Up Days:
Monday, October 6th:  Sports Day

  • Students may wear clothing depicting any type of sports as long as it is school appropriate.  Hats are permitted if sports related.

Tuesday, October 7th:  Clash Day (Mismatch Day)

  • Wear clothing that does not match.  Wearing undergarments or bathing suits on top of regular clothing is unacceptable.

Wednesday, October 8th:  Class Color Day

  • Student in each class will dress in clothing of a designated color: 

Seniors – Orange                               Juniors – Blue
Sophomores – Green                         Freshman - Red
Thursday, October 9th:  Character Day

  • Dress as your favorite movie, book, tv, or cartoon character.  All attire must be school appropriate.

Friday, October 10th:  Garnet and Gold Day

Homecoming is full of activities in which the high school classes compete for the Spirit Award.  They may earn points by participating in the Dress Up Days, Copper Wars, the Womanless Beauty Pageant, Powder Puff Games and Cheerleading Contest, Volleyball Tournament, Pep Rally, Float Competition and Banner Contest.

Dress up Days – Points are accumulated by the number of classmates who dress up each day.  Point sheets will be turned in DAILY during 3rd period.
Copper Wars – Points equal the total amount of money collected after the copper coins have been subtracted from the silver coins.
Competitions – Each competition is awarded points toward the Spirit Award.  The points are as follows:

1st place = 50 points, 2nd place = 30 points, 3rd place = 20 points, 4th place = 10 points

Dress-up Days:  Monday, October 6th thru Friday, October 10th  

  • Teachers will receive a tally sheet to record the number of students and teachers in their 3rd period class that are participating in the dress up days.
  • The tally sheets need to be returned to Miss Ribinski in Room 19-13 by the end of 3rd period each day of Homecoming week.  Tally sheets will be returned to each teacher in their mailboxes at the end of the day. 
  • Teachers and Staff are encouraged to participate in the dress-up days also. 
  • There will be prizes for the best dressed students, faculty and staff. 

Copper Wars:  Monday, October 6th thru Friday, October 10th

  • During lunch students will have the opportunity to raise money and spirit points for their class.
  • Each class will have a jug in the cafeteria to put their coins in.
  • All silver coins are positive numbers.
  • All copper coins are negative numbers.
  • Paper money is also accepted and counted as positive numbers.
  • The total money collected after subtracting the copper coins from the silver coins for each class is added to their scores.
  • Students should throw silver coins in their bottle and copper coins in the other class’ bottles.
  • Each class will be given a water jug.  The class is responsible for decorating and labeling their own jug.  Class jugs need to be returned to Miss Ribinski in Room 19-13 by Wednesday, October 1st. 
  • All money raised will be given to the classes.

Banner Competition:

  • Banners made by each class will be used both at the pep rally and at the football game (weather permitting).
  • Banners should be no more than 3 feet wide (standard bulletin board roll) and 25 feet long. 
  • All classes will compete for points toward their overall homecoming score.
  • Any club, group or sport team may also participate by making a banner with the same specifications.
  • Banners should be turned into Miss Ribinski in Room 19-13 by the end of the day Wednesday, October 8th.  Please roll them before bringing them to Miss Ribinski.  
  • SCA will hang them in the gym for the pep rally and at the football field. 

Nominations for Homecoming King and Queen:

  • Nominations are $1 per nominee.
  • Nominations will be taken in the cafeteria from September 22nd thru September 26th.
  • Nominees with three votes or more will be put on the ballot.
  • Voting for the 2008 Homecoming King and Queen will take place on October 1st.

Monday, October 6, 2008:  Womanless Beauty Pageant

  • Any high school male is encouraged to participate. 
  • Each class should have a male contestant.  Clubs, groups and sports are encouraged to sponsor a contestant also. 
  • They will be judged on evening gown, bathing suit and talent.
  • Applications (PINK paper) can be picked up from Miss Ribinski in Room 19-13,  Mr. Harper in the Technology office or from any class sponsor.  
  • Applications are due to Miss Ribinski or Mr. Harper by Wednesday, October 1st.
  • Contestants are responsible for their own clothes, makeup, hair, and talent.
  • They may bring only ONE person with them backstage to help them with the event.
  • There will be a meeting Thursday, October 2nd after school for all contestants.
  • There will be a cash prize for the top 3 contestants with a matching cash prize to their sponsor. 
  • Spirit points will also be awarded based on results of the class contestants.    
  • Tickets to the pageant are $3 and will be sold at the door.    

Wednesday, October 8, 2008:  Powder-puff Football and Cheerleading Competitions

  • Each class should have a female powder-puff team and a male cheerleader squad.
  • Any class that does not have a cheer squad will loose 25 points. 
  • Students wishing to participate in either the powder-puff or cheerleading competition must have a signed permission slip (GREEN paper).
  • Class officers and sponsors will be responsible for obtaining a coach and players.
  • Coaches are responsible for keeping all forms and making sure that participating students have turned in their forms before they practice or play.
  • Coaches and/or sponsors will arrange and supervise all practices.
  • A list of eligible players must be turned in to Miss Ribinski by Tuesday, October 7th.
  • Cheerleaders will perform between the 2nd and 3rd games.
  • If they wish to use music, they must have a labeled CD in the press box before Game #2 (the Sophomore/Junior game).
  • Squads must be ready to play/perform when announced.  Each squad must be in their designated area by the home team benches at the end of game 2.
  • Points will be awarded for the powder-puff and cheerleading competition based on the outcome.
  • Tickets into the powder-puff games are $3 at the gate.
  • The Junior class will be selling refreshments.
  • Class sponsors are responsible for getting the cheerleading uniforms from Dale Harper and returning them to him by the end of the week. 
  • Any class that has not returned the uniforms by Friday, October 10th will lose 25 points. 

Thursday, October 9, 2008:  Volleyball Tournament

  • Each class will have their own team consisting of selected teachers and students. 
  • Students who wish to participate may sign up with their class representatives/class sponsors. 
  • Teachers will be recruited by SCA Officers, Class Officers and sponsors. 
  • Students must have signed consent slips (BLUE paper) in order to participate.
  • Coaches are responsible for keeping all forms and making sure that participating students have turned in their forms before they practice or play.
  • Coaches will also arrange and supervise all practices.
  • Teams will consist of no more than 12 students plus any faculty and staff members that wish to play for that class.
  • Both male and female students, faculty, and staff members may play on the teams.
  • A list of eligible players must be turned in to Miss Ribinski by Wednesday, October 10th.
  • Each team should wear their class shirts. 
  • Game #1 (6th Period) - Juniors vs. Freshmen 
  • Game #2 (7th Period) - Seniors vs. Sophomores 
  • All students of each participating class will be spectators for the games and demonstrate school spirit by supporting and routing for their teams.
  • Teachers with mixed classes should keep the students that are not participating in the volleyball games that period and send the students that are to the gym. 
  • Teachers with classes of all the same grade levels should report to the gym with their class to help with supervision.
  • The points for Homecoming will be awarded on a highest score system.  1st place will be the team with the most points and 4th place will be the team with the least points.
  • Unsportsmanship conduct will result in the loss of 25 points.

 

Friday, October 10, 2008:  Parade and Football Game
Parade:

  • All clubs, sports, classes, etc. are invited to participate in the parade
  • Please let Miss Ribinski know by Wednesday, October 1st  if you will have a group marching or a float in the parade. 
  • Floats should be constructed on a flat-bed trailer. 
  • A parade lineup will be provided by Thursday, October 9th .
  • All floats and groups are to be on the bus ramp lined up at 5:45 PM.  Floats and cars should enter through the bus entrance on SR 80. 
  • Class floats will be judged as part of the class competitions.
  • Classes are responsible for their own convertibles, floats, banners, etc.
  • Convertibles should have a name plate on both sides of the car with the court members name and grade.
  • The pairings for homecoming court will be announced by October 3rd.

Football Game:

  • Riverdale Raiders will take on the Dunbar Tigers.
  • The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during half time.
  • All court members should plan on attending.

Saturday, October 11, 2008:  Homecoming Dance

  • Tickets will be on sale in the cafeteria from September 29th thru October 10th.
  • Tickets are $15.  NO TICKETS will be sold at the door.  ALL tickets must be purchased in advance.
  • All fines must be paid before a ticket can be purchased.
  • Fines and monies owed must be paid by October 8th or students will not be able to purchase a ticket.
  • Homecoming Court will receive complimentary tickets once their fines have been paid. 
  • Only high school students are permitted at the dance. 
  • Dates (students) from other high schools must have a completed and approved waiver (YELLOW paper) before a ticket may be purchased. 
  • Waivers may be picked up and returned to Miss Ribinski in Room 19-13 or Ms. Bruce in the front office.
  • Waivers must be turned in to be approved by Wednesday, October 8th to the front office to be approved.  NO tickets will be sold until the approved waiver is turned in to Miss Ribinski and recorded in the ticket book. 
  • The Prince and Princess will be crowned at the dance.
  • Dress is semi-formal.  Jeans and sneakers are not acceptable.  Ties are encouraged but not required
